“Luke in this film is not really a power fantasy, he’s a mirror to our complete selves. A mirror to all the darker truths of what adults carry around inside. But it’s precisely the act of Yoda showing him this mirror that helps Luke accept how he has changed, and therefore come back into ‘himself.’ And so when Luke finds his courage to face his demons? It results in the most rousing sequence of the film, and maybe even the entire series. Luke’s transcendent finale battle with Kylo is probably the single most badass thing I’ve ever seen in these films. Luke literally heads off an entire squad of AT-AT walkers, has a tense samurai-esque lightsaber battle with Kylo, and then it’s revealed to be an incredible ruse of force projection from across the galaxy, thus rendering it an incredible act of Jedi-like pacifism to boot. He, like so many in the film, wins not by fighting what he hates, but by saving the people he loves. And having used every ounce of the force within him, he stares into the sun, the boy who always looked to the horizon for what was next, now simply closing his eyes and feeling where he is now…and he lets go. I got literal goosebumps. For all the deep want of Luke being a god, it is with the most Jesus-like notions of sacrifice that he feels the most human.”

Anonymous asked: About the zuko/kylo comparison: don't forget the fact that both ended up where they were at the beginning of the story because of an incident with a family member played by mark hamill ;)

Anonymous asked: i follow two zutara writers but man they are the worst antis i’ve ever encountered. they still believe that kylo “raped” rey and manipulated her and all that. whenever someone says zuko and kylo in the same sentence they both have instant heart attacks. and here’s the real kicker, i don’t even think they’ve actually watched TFA or TLJ. AT ALL. they just hate based on what other antis have said. it’s so pathetic lmao

lueminous:

Lmao like why are they so against forming their own opinions

Yeah, hi, just gonna put this out there

Notice how Zuko treated her in season 1, versus like episode 15/20 in season 3. And Katara hugged HIM.

I assume the first picture looks familiar to people who’ve seen TFA?

This isn’t me saying you have to ship reylo because you ship zutara or that they’re the same at all. But stop acting like people are crazy for seeing the parallels between these characters or considering that Kylo could redeem himself and LIVE and be friends with the main characters.

The deconstruction of The Legend of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi should’ve been something like:

“The galaxy thinks I’m a flawless hero who defeated evil all by myself with the power of the Force, but in actuality I failed a lot and learned a lot, and relied on my friends to help me in all of my legendary feats. And in the end, it was simple human compassion that defeated the Emperor. Not legendary fighting skills.”

And not:

“The galaxy thinks I’m a brave, morally upright hero but in reality I’m a coward and a quitter and contemplated murdering my own nephew.”

*but in reality I’m not perfect, I too am susceptible to the influence of the dark side, even now, and it is POWERFUL. It tricks you into believing you’re making the right choice, the ONLY choice. I am not invincible to making grave mistakes and I don’t know if I should trust myself anymore, but I’m sure as shit the galaxy shouldn’t rely on me.”

How is this viewpoint so hard to comprehend? That it wasn’t simple cowardice, but that he was enough of a hero to back out and sacrifice his connection to the Force because he had lost control. It shows that sometimes even your heroes aren’t idealistic, and can’t always make the right choices.

And it’s not like the movie portrayed that as endgame heroism! Despite all of his shame and doubt, Luke grasped the courage he needed and sacrificed himself in one final attempt to make things right, in a non-violent way. THAT is the Luke Skywalker I know. THAT is the Luke Skywalker I grew up admiring.

I’m losing followers for kindly asking people not to use the pain of my and other people’s ancestors and hundreds of years of the history that resulted in me being on this world as fodder for their erotica. You know what? See you and good luck to you. I aim to be friendly with everyone on this hellsite until they give me reason to do otherwise, but if you think the history that put me on this planet should be less important to me (and my right to demand you don’t use it liberally just cause you feel you can) than your right to wank to made up characters, I’d rather you didn’t follow me to begin with.

Thank you and good bye.

Frankly, the fact that people are even ignoring this shit just makes me feel like I need a break from this fandom. Please unfollow if you think people of color are being unreasonable when we ask NOT TO BE IGNORED.

Same with me too
